The use of microorganism for the benefit of mankind dated back to the Neolithic period (around 10,000 years BC). However, the scientific rationale behind their uses first came to attention in 1665 when a Dutch scientist Anton Van Leeuwenhoek identified microorganisms through the intervention of microscope. Today, microorganisms are utilized in almost every field such as agricultural and aquacultural, food and nutrition, medical and pharmaceutical and also in up-scaled industrial applications. Although various strains of microbes have been identified as beneficial, however much have yet to be discovered, exploited and understood. Initiatives from various research fields are needed to synergistically unfold the great potentials of these microbes.
Our past events (ICOBM-2014 in Penang, Malaysia; ICOBM-2016 in Phuket, Thailand), were successful with over 220 participants from over 25 countries. This event will be continued, and we anticipate that ICOBM-2018 will attract over 300 participants.
Sarawak Biodiversity Center is proud to collaborate with Microbiome Intl. Sdn. Bhd. and Fermetec Resources Sdn. Bhd. in organizing ICOBM-2018 with the aim to bring together and provide a platform for interaction and exchanging research ideas among experts from various fields of beneficial microorganisms. The conference will be held in Kuching, Malaysia from 30th July -1st August 2018 and will be attended by repute scientists, researchers, academicians, industrial professionals and postgraduate students globally.
